# Libra Energy B2B commerce platform

Lab Digital replaced Libra Energy's legacy B2B webshop with a composable commerce platform. All of its roughly 1,700 customers moved in one evening, and the platform is now the blueprint for Rensa Family's other labels.

## A webshop that could win customers, on a fixed date

Libra Energy is a wholesaler for anything to do with renewable energy: solar panels, battery storage, EV charging and any installation material an installer may need. Those installers order the materials for the job they are on, often the same day. Libra wanted its webshop to do more than take those orders. It wanted the webshop to bring in new customers. The first chance was Solar Solutions Amsterdam in March 2026, where Libra was launching new products and planned to sign up new customers at its stand.

The existing webshop had served Libra well while the business was smaller, but it was not built for this next step. It depended on an external supplier's systems, which were due to be retired, so a change was coming anyway. Installers could order if they knew the article number. They could not search by name or specification, see product images, or order on account with a live credit check.

For Rensa Family, the group Libra belongs to, the project mattered beyond Libra. Libra would be the first of the group's labels (its brands) on a shared composable commerce platform. If it worked, the other labels would follow on the same foundation, starting with Rensa, the group's main brand, planned for 2026.

### A fixed date

Live before Solar Solutions Amsterdam opened on 10 March, with new products launching there.

### Real customers, real revenue

Libra's largest customers were already ordering on the new platform during the transition, so stability came before feature count.

### The first of many

The platform had to work for every Rensa Family label.

## What it means for Libra Energy

### Orders without phone calls

Installers find products by name or specification, see their own prices and current stock, and order on account within their credit limit. They submit returns online. The customer service team now handles structured orders and returns instead of phone calls and emails about article numbers.

### Growth on the webshop

New customers can be onboarded in minutes, including at a trade fair stand. The webshop team runs campaigns and onboarding without help from a developer.

### No disruption

Every customer logged in on day one with the same credentials they already used. Orders continued through the switch. For most installers, nothing changed.

### One base for the group

The platform was built for several brands from the start. Differences between labels live in configuration, so the next Rensa Family label starts from a working platform.

## Prove it with real orders before the switch

We built one multi-label platform on commercetools, Contentful, Algolia and Mollie, with a single integration layer to Rensa's systems. Evolve, our own accelerator platform, connects the storefronts to those services through one GraphQL endpoint. Libra was the first label on it.

From December 2025, while the old webshop kept running, we invited Libra's largest customers onto the new platform. By mid-February, 90 customers were placing 15% of all Libra orders there. Those real orders showed us where the platform needed work, weeks before the full switch, so Libra could base the go-live decision on evidence from real customers.

Because the launch date was fixed, Libra and Lab Digital agreed what installers needed on day one and built that first. Everything else followed in the weeks after launch, once the platform was live and taking orders. Rensa's security and infrastructure teams worked with us throughout, so the platform met the group's security requirements from its first day.

## Working as one team

Libra Energy, Rensa Family and Lab Digital worked as one team, with direct contact between the people building the platform and the people who would run it. Rensa's e-commerce lead and product owner worked alongside the team and decided priorities as they came up, using Libra's own order data. That kept the platform focused on what installers use most, and nobody had to wait weeks for a decision.

Libra's own team stayed in charge of its customers. The webshop team invited installers onto the new platform, ran the go-live communication and was the first point of contact on launch day. Lab Digital built, tested and supported the platform; Libra kept the customer relationship. By go-live, Libra's team knew the platform well enough to run it themselves.

## Four phases, ending in a one-evening switch

### Discovery and build

From May 2025. One composable, multi-label platform, built against Rensa's existing systems. Twelve integrations cover pricing, stock, orders, invoices, credit and accounts.

### Beta with the largest customers

From December 2025. Libra's biggest accounts moved first. By mid-February, 90 customers were placing 15% of all orders on the new platform.

### Go-live

February to March 2026. Libra and Lab Digital agreed the launch scope. On 2 March they took the go/no-go decision based on the beta results, and the full switch happened on the evening of 3 March.

### Support

From March 2026. Daily follow-up with the Libra team in the first weeks, then an ongoing support arrangement with Lab Digital.

## Built around how installers order

Every feature is built around how an installer works: find the right product quickly, see your own price and stock, and order in the way your business is set up to buy.

### Customer-specific pricing and stock

Installers see their own prices and current availability on every product.

### Search by name or specification

With product images, so installers find the right product without knowing the article number.

### Ordering on account

Order within an agreed credit limit, checked by the platform.

### Self-service returns

Submit a return online, per product type, without phoning.

### Same login as before

Existing customers signed in with their existing credentials from day one.

### New labels by configuration

A new Rensa Family storefront runs on the same platform, with its own settings.

## Installers, mostly for quick orders

The platform's users are professional installers in solar, battery storage and EV charging. A typical visit is short and specific: order the materials for a job, check a price, check stock. At Solar Solutions Amsterdam, a week after go-live, Libra signed up new customers at its stand by scanning their event badges.

Inside Libra, the webshop team runs onboarding and campaigns. Customer service sees orders and returns in a structured form. Content is managed in Contentful. Support runs through the Rensa service desk, with Lab Digital providing third-line support.

## A single overnight migration

Libra Energy went live on 3 March 2026 with all of its active customers on the new platform, one week before Solar Solutions Amsterdam. The switch took one evening.

Installers found the new webshop easier to use. Their customer effort score, which measures how easy it is for customers to get things done, rose from 6.1 to 6.7 out of 7 after go-live.

Libra's platform is now the documented blueprint for Rensa Family's other labels. A roll-out plan describes how a new label storefront is set up on the same foundation, and Rensa is next.

## After go-live: AI-assisted order intake

Much of Libra's demand never reaches the webshop. An installer quotes a job to their own customer, then forwards the same quote to Libra as a PDF or Excel attachment. Until recently, someone at Libra read each document and rebuilt the list by hand in the catalogue. That took around 30 minutes per quote, ten or more times a day, and the installer waited several hours or a full working day for a priced list.

An AI agent now does that work. The installer forwards the quote to a Libra mailbox. The agent reads the attachment, whatever the format, and finds each line in the catalogue. It creates a shopping list on the platform and replies in the installer's own language, listing anything it could not find. The installer opens the link, logs in, sees their own contract prices and current stock, and adds the whole list to the cart in one click. A Libra account manager checks each list before the reply goes out.

### Why this was possible

The agent uses the same gateway and the same authentication as the webshop, so it can do only what the webshop can do. It never sees pricing or stock; those appear when the installer logs in. The commerce platform was built as a set of services with one typed interface, so we only had to give the agent access to services that already existed. The same layer is ready for returns handling, an assistant inside the storefront, and the roll-out to Rensa.

## Frequently asked questions

### What did Lab Digital build for Libra Energy?

A composable B2B commerce platform to replace Libra Energy's legacy webshop. It runs on commercetools, Contentful, Algolia and Mollie, with Lab Digital's Evolve connecting the storefront to those services. It has been live since 3 March 2026 and serves all of Libra's roughly 1,700 active customers.

### What was the goal of the project?

Libra Energy wanted a webshop that could win new customers as well as serve existing ones, in time for the product launch at Solar Solutions Amsterdam in March 2026. For Rensa Family, the project had to show that one shared platform could serve several labels.

### How was the go-live kept safe?

Libra's largest customers started ordering on the new platform in December 2025. By mid-February they placed 15% of all orders there. The go-live decision on 2 March was based on those real orders, and the full switch took one evening. A rollback plan was ready and was not needed.

### What results were achieved?

All active customers moved in one evening, a week before Solar Solutions Amsterdam. The customer effort score rose from 6.1 to 6.7 out of 7. Six months later, the same platform runs an AI-assisted order intake that turns emailed quotes into ready-to-order shopping lists in under a minute.

### How long did the project take?

Discovery and build ran from May 2025. The customer beta started in December 2025 and the full go-live was on 3 March 2026.

### Why one platform for several brands?

Libra is the first label on Rensa Family's shared composable commerce platform. Differences between labels live in configuration, so the labels that follow start from a working platform.

### How does Libra Energy use AI on the platform?

Installers often email quotes to Libra as PDF or Excel attachments. An AI agent reads those attachments, matches each line to the catalogue and creates a shopping list in the webshop, in under a minute instead of around 30 minutes of manual work. An account manager checks the list before it is sent.
