apps that earn their place on the home screen

We build native mobile apps for brands, retailers, and enterprise teams. Commerce storefronts, workforce tools, utility apps. Native iOS and Android, designed to fit the people who use them and the systems you already run.

mobile is a channel, not a product

A good app is part of a bigger experience, not a standalone thing. Your customers, employees, or users move between your website, your app, your in-store tooling, and your back office. The app needs to feel like one coherent experience with all of them.

We design and build apps with that multichannel reality in mind. Shared content, shared data, shared design language. One brand, many surfaces, consistent across all of them.

The opportunity

your audience is on mobile

More than half of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. For commerce, mobile browsers convert at a fraction of the desktop rate. For workforce and utility apps, your people are on their phones whether you have an app or not. The question is whether the mobile experience you offer is worth their time.

people expect more than a browser

Push notifications. Saved preferences. Biometric login. Offline mode. Deep links. These are table stakes in the apps your customers and employees already use. A responsive website, no matter how good, cannot match them.

you should not have to rebuild to get there

If your web presence already runs on a modern platform, your product data, content, or business logic can power an app too. The backend work is mostly done. The question is how to put a native frontend on it.

not every brand needs an app. we will tell you if yours does not.

We start every conversation by asking what the app needs to do that your website cannot. If the answer is "not much," we will say so. Sometimes a progressive web app, a responsive redesign, or better mobile UX is the right move. We would rather help you make the right call than sell you something you do not need.

We build apps that connect to whatever you already run. That means any modern composable commerce platform, your CMS, your authentication provider, your order management or workforce systems. If it has an API, we can wire your app into it.

Commerce stacks. commercetools, Shopify, BigCommerce, Evolve, Spryker, Magento. If your storefront runs on a modern composable platform, we can build an app on top of it without duplicating your catalog, pricing, or checkout logic.

Content and workforce systems. SharePoint, headless CMS, internal APIs, SSO providers. For employee and utility apps, we plug into the systems your team already operates in so the app does not create a second source of truth.

If you run on Evolve, even easier. Evolve is our own composable commerce accelerator. Apps built on Evolve share the same GraphQL layer as the web store, so catalog, pricing, promotions, and checkout are consistent out of the box. Existing Evolve clients get a faster path to launch.

What your app includes

a real native experience

Built with React Native and Expo for iOS and Android from a single codebase. This is not a website in a wrapper. It is a native app with smooth animations, gesture navigation, and platform-specific patterns your users expect.

the features that matter

Push notifications, deep linking, biometric login, offline browsing, Apple Pay and Google Pay where relevant. For enterprise apps, SSO integration, mobile device management, and news or content feeds from your existing systems.

managed after launch

App Store and Play Store submission, review management, and ongoing updates. Over-the-air updates mean most changes ship without waiting for Apple's review queue. Crash reporting, analytics, and performance monitoring included.

How we work

  1. assess Do you actually need an app? We look at your users, your existing platform, and your goals to figure out the right answer. If an app is not it, we will tell you what is.

  2. design Mobile-native interaction design, not a shrunken version of your website. We prototype key flows and test with real users before writing production code. You see and approve the experience before we build it.

  3. build One codebase for iOS and Android, connected to your existing backend. We work in short cycles so you can see progress and steer as we go, not wait months for a big reveal.

  4. launch and iterate We handle App Store submission, beta testing, staged rollout, and crash monitoring. After launch, most updates ship over the air without waiting for store review. Your app keeps getting better without the bottleneck.

WCWijzer Screens

WC Wijzer for MDL Fonds

The Netherlands has a toilet problem. Research by MDL Fonds found that 21% of Dutch people avoid going out because they fear not finding a toilet in time. For the 1.1 million people living with chronic digestive conditions like Crohn's disease, that means social isolation.

We worked with MDL Fonds to build WC Wijzer: a native app mapping over 8,000 verified toilets across every Dutch municipality, with filters for wheelchair access, Eurokey compatibility, and changing facilities. Launched on World Toilet Day 2025, the app reached #2 overall and #1 in Navigation on the iOS App Store, with nearly 25,000 downloads in its first two months.

WC Wijzer is nominated for two Dutch Interactive Awards (DIA) 2026: Digital for Good, and Charity, Not-for-Profit & Government.

Why Lab Digital?

end-to-end under one roof

Strategy, research, design, engineering, and ongoing operations, all in-house in Utrecht. No handoffs between agencies. The team that scopes your app is the team that ships it and keeps it running.

commerce and enterprise in our DNA

We have spent over a decade building composable, API-first digital experiences for retailers, brands, and large enterprises. That depth shapes how we think about apps: not as standalone products, but as connected parts of a bigger system.

platform agnostic, opinionated where it matters

We work with your existing stack, whatever it is. But we will tell you when a choice will cost you later — and when a technology decision is worth challenging.

honest advice, before and after the sale

If an app is not the right answer, we will say so. If a feature is not worth building, we will push back. We measure ourselves on whether the app earns its place, not on how many features we shipped.

built to last

We think about day 90, not just day 1. Over-the-air updates, crash monitoring, performance tuning, and staged rollouts are part of every build. Your app keeps getting better after it launches.

not sure if an app is the right move?

That is a good question, and we like helping people answer it. No pitch, no commitment. Just an honest conversation about whether mobile makes sense for your business.

Let's figure it out.
